Boston roof deck updateFriday March 28th, 1:52amIn case you missed it, in late February 2008, the Greater Boston Real Estate Board sent out another update to members regarding a new law concerning the permitting of Roof Decks in Boston that was sponsored by Councilor Michael Ross (District 8-Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Fenway, Kenmore, Mission Hill, West End and Allston). Boston Inspectional Services has received a number of calls from our members seeking to obtain the new "Roof Deck Permits." Many of these Roof Decks already have been issued building permits for their construction. In conversations between GBREB and ISD, we have been told that Boston's Inspectional Services Division is satisfied that an existing building permit for a properly constructed roof deck would also meet the requirements of this new law. The following letter was issued by ISD in an attempt to clarify this issue CLICK HERE. The new regulations on Roof Decks should be issued by ISD very shortly and we are told that they will answer many commonly asked questions.
